Woodford Folk Festival 2011


The 67th biggest town in Australia is being built outside Woodford for the six-day feast of entertainment, art and ideas that is the Woodford Folk Festival (December 27 to January 1).
The musical line-up is headed by Gotye and his 10-piece band, Xavier Rudd, Peggy Seeger, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Husky, Cloud Control, Renee Geyer, My Friend the Chocolate Cake, Eagle and The Worm and The Herd.
This year's program also features The Dreaming Festival, and combined they have total of 400 acts performing at 20 venues (most of which are covered).

Those stages are set in a tent village consisting of streets lined with around 100 stalls selling clothes, jewellery and other merchandise, and 46 cafes, restaurants and bars.
The festival offers a sophisticated mix of musical styles ranging from traditional folk to contemporary singer-songwriters, rock, blues, and just about everything in-between.
There will also be dance, street theatre, writers' panels, a film festival, talks and debates, art and craft workshops and a children's festival.
 Activities start about 9am and continue until after midnight.

2011 New Years Eve Fireworks Celebrations



Caloundra will again host the annual Caloundra Community New Years Eve Celebrations for a night of family fun. Come along and enjoy the fireworks display on New Years Eve from two advantage points, one being the foreshore of Kings Beach and the rooftop of the Caloundra Transit Centre.

There will be free family fun to bring in the New Year, consisting of performers to entertain the little ones and those  "young at heart" . Face painters, clowns, roving artists, heaps of rides, side show alley and  food stalls will be there to tempt those taste buds.  A  movie  "Yogi Bear" will be screened and the brilliant fireworks display  again  brought to us by Clive Featherby and his crew from KC Firework

Coolum Christmas in the Park

Christmas is just around the corner and that means Coolum's annual Christmas in the Park spectacular is getting close. Each year their carols by candlelight event gets bigger and brighter, attracting hundreds of locals and visitors. This year's event will start at 6.00 p.m. in Coolum's Tickle Park. The program is guaranteed to have everyone smiling and singing along.

Santa is scheduled to make an appearance, but how he will arrive this year is a surprise. There will be glow sticks on sale, giveaways for the children and free tea and coffee served. To top off the region's biggest carols night, a spectacular fireworks display will light up the night sky from 8.30 p.m.

Eumundi Summer Twilight Markets


The Original Eumundi Markets will host Summer Twilight Markets on five Friday nights from 5pm – 9pm, commencing 16 December.
The dates for your diary are Friday 16 December, Friday 23 December, Friday 30 December, Friday 6 January and Friday 13 January.
The twilight markets will be a great opportunity for locals to enjoy a relaxed night out, with market food stalls, craft stalls, and fabulous free entertainment, including live music and outdoor movies.

Australian PGA Championships 2011

The Australian PGA Championship attracts thousands of fans to the Hyatt Regency Coolum on Queensland’s beautiful Sunshine Coast each year. Day For Daniel 2011

Now in its seventh year, 'Day for Daniel' continues to grow on a national scale and is recognised as Australia's largest participation event of its type.

The Sunshine Coast Walk for Daniel, on 28th October, marks start of the 2011 Day for Daniel and will see members of the Sunshine Coast community depart Woombye and finish off at Palmwoods approximately 3.5 kilometres. 


The event is hosted by the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and aims to raise awareness about child safety, promote a safer community for children and honour the memory of abducted Sunshine Coast Teenager Daniel Morcombe.


Special Guest and Host of The Biggest Loser Hayley Lewis and Australia Zoo Mascot 'Kahn' for the kiddies. Food and Drink available. Gold coin donation sausage sizzle. All participants encouraged to wear red.

Passion For Fashion at Eumundi Markets


If you’re after original fashion with funk and flair, then put Saturday 29 October in your diary for the Passion for Fashion day at Eumundi Markets.

Renowned as a springboard for emerging designers, The Original Eumundi Markets hosts Passion for Fashion each year to celebrate the unique designs of the many fashionistas within the market community.


Visitors will be able follow a special Passion for Fashion Trail on the day – a trail through the market that highlights more than 60 stalls with a fashion focus.  


The Passion for Fashion Trail will include men’s, women’s and children’s fashion, as well as handmade shoes, jewellery, hats and other accessories.


Another highlight of the morning will be parades of the new spring and summer collections from flagship fashion stalls.  The designs will be paraded from 10am on the catwalk at Main Stage.


The market designer collections will be followed by fashion parades featuring original designs made by the fashion design students of Sunshine Coast TAFE.

Caloundra Music Festival 2011


The fifth annual Caloundra Music Festival will be held over the weekend of 7 - 9 October. This not for profit family-friendly community event celebrates the environment, cultural achievements and community pride of the Caloundra area. The beautiful Kings Beach and surrounds will come alive to the sounds of a diverse line-up of entertainment. A colourful street parade, roving performers, beach-side carnival, buskers, free children's entertainment and a stroll in The Village complete the experience.
Artists include Empire of the Sun, Missy Higgins, ICEHOUSE, Eskimo Joe, Little Red, Bluejuice, Baby Animals, Thirsty Merc, The Jezabels, Tex Perkins and the Dark Horses, Diesel, Richard Clapton and many more.

Music on Kings - "Le Opera Cirque"


Creative Events Incorporated and Vavachi Entertainment in conjunction with Aerialicious and Trix Circus have created Music on Kings "Le Opera Cirque"; an exciting show that blends the beauty and spectacle of circus with the beauty and emotion of opera.

"Le Opera Cirque" reminds the audience of what it is like to be young with all the highs and lows of becoming an adult, coping with pressures, parents and independence, falling in and out of love and the biggest pressure of all, body image.

Our team of young performers use opera to express all of the feelings of youth with the songs and music by Mozart, Bizef, Lehar, Leonard Bernstein, Puccini, Smetana, Wagner, Gounod and Gershwin.

Combining beautiful music and talented singers with acrobats, aerialists - this will be a truly unique experience that will leave the audience captivated. A brilliant cast include some of Queensland's finest talents with the beautiful tones of Katie Stenzel, Mia Yanik and Iain Henderson with the youth troupe from Trix Circus.

They are regarded internationally as some of Australia's best, who leave audiences in awe with their elegance and daring precision.

We are thrilled to have Rosanna Natoli from Channel Seven, Maroochydore to host this year's wonderful evening. Rosanna, a local, is well known for her flair and appreciation of the arts and we are thrilled to have her expertise in presenting to us "Le Opera Cirque".

Buderim Garden Festival 2011

Spring into the ‘Garden Village’ of the Sunshine Coast, Buderim, on 10th and 11th of September for its annual Festival of Flowers and Gardens. Over 14 years, the Festival has grown to be a major event on the Sunshine Coast calendar, attracting visitors from all over South East Queensland and beyond. 

This year's Festival will include six open gardens, the Spring Flower Show, specialist grower’s exhibits, and plant stalls. Next door, at Buderim Craft Cottage, Sunshine Coast artists and sculptors will present an exhibition of sculpture, much of it designed for placement in gardens. Light refreshments available.

Doing Dads Proud - Father's Day Event

Doing Dads Proud is a Father's Day event hosted by Lifeline Community Care Queensland, Metro North and Coast Region. It has been running for 11 years and attracts families from all over the coast and its surrounding areas. 

Families can look forward to entertainment, rides and activities, boy’s toys displays, dance, exercise and drumming workshops, swimming pool activities, a mini market place, an array of local and exotic foods and plenty of fun to be had. 

Most rides and activities require only a gold coin donation to participate. Entry is free and the whole family is welcomed.

Gympie Muster 23 - 28 August 2011

A phenomenal experience, held over 6 action-packed days and nights, set in one of Queensland's most beautiful and normally peaceful National State Parks, the Optus Gympie Music Muster honors the true spirit of Country Australia.

Amamoor Creek Sate Forest Park, located just outside of Historical Gympie, creates a picturesque home site for one of Australia's largest outdoor Music Festival, entrenched in community spirit far removed from ties, clocks, suits and schedules. Thousands of festival goers are attracted every year by the smorgasbord of diverse programs rich with our country's finest musicians, the bush land setting laced with inviting whiffs of campfire cooking and fresh bush eucalypt, the easy camaraderie created by companionable patrons all set to simply enjoy themselves, "there are no strangers at the Muster, only friends you haven't met yet"

The Muster is more than just a spectacular celebration of music - over 50 community groups and 2000 volunteers annually help the Gympie Muster team stage this non-profit community-based festival to raise funds for charities Australia-wide. Since its inception, the Muster has raised over $14M for charities and the Muster's Rural Aid Appeal annually raises up to $100,000 for its nominated charity.

Island Charity Swim 2011

Island Charity Swim, is preparing for its eleventh year of fundraising for the region’s two special schools, at Currimundi and Nambour as many swim teams begin training.

This year’s swim will take place on Saturday 13 August, leaving Mudjimba Beach in the early hours of the morning with most swimmers arriving at Mooloolaba Beach mid-morning to a big community welcome. 

The annual Island Charity Swim is an 11km open ocean swim and each year approximately 100 participants complete the course over several hours from Mudjimba beach, around Old Woman Island, and back to shore at Mooloolaba beach. 

To date the event has raised almost a million dollars for funding equipment and student programs and the 2011 event is expected to be another record year for participants. The fundraising goal for this year is $10,000 for special needs equipment for both schools. 

Individuals and teams can take part and are invited to contact the volunteer committee now to register.

National Tree Day - 31 July 2011

National Tree Day on Sunday 31 July is the perfect opportunity for you and your family to get outdoors, connect with nature and do something good for the environment. There will be tree planting and wildlife presentations on the day. Please wear appropriate clothing—a hat, covered shores, long sleeved shirt and long pants are recommended. Gloves, tools and equipment for planting, watering cans and buckets, drinking water and a BBQ will be provided on the day.

One of this year's tree planting site will be in Bancroft’s Red Gum Bush Reserve (End of Lakeshore Place, Little Mountain Parklands, Little Mountain).The site size is 4000sm and will be planted out with mainly Wallum species to extend the existing bush reserve which is aimed to protect, maintain and restore the environmental and habitat values. This will be the main project site for the southern region so come and play your part with local Bushcare groups to help protect our environment for future generations. Second site will be at Marcus Beach where you can help revegetate the dunes of Marcus Beach, creating wildlife corridors and linking significant habitats.
