Gympie Muster 23 - 28 August 2011

A phenomenal experience, held over 6 action-packed days and nights, set in one of Queensland's most beautiful and normally peaceful National State Parks, the Optus Gympie Music Muster honors the true spirit of Country Australia.

Amamoor Creek Sate Forest Park, located just outside of Historical Gympie, creates a picturesque home site for one of Australia's largest outdoor Music Festival, entrenched in community spirit far removed from ties, clocks, suits and schedules. Thousands of festival goers are attracted every year by the smorgasbord of diverse programs rich with our country's finest musicians, the bush land setting laced with inviting whiffs of campfire cooking and fresh bush eucalypt, the easy camaraderie created by companionable patrons all set to simply enjoy themselves, "there are no strangers at the Muster, only friends you haven't met yet"

The Muster is more than just a spectacular celebration of music - over 50 community groups and 2000 volunteers annually help the Gympie Muster team stage this non-profit community-based festival to raise funds for charities Australia-wide. Since its inception, the Muster has raised over $14M for charities and the Muster's Rural Aid Appeal annually raises up to $100,000 for its nominated charity.

Island Charity Swim 2011

Island Charity Swim, is preparing for its eleventh year of fundraising for the region’s two special schools, at Currimundi and Nambour as many swim teams begin training.

This year’s swim will take place on Saturday 13 August, leaving Mudjimba Beach in the early hours of the morning with most swimmers arriving at Mooloolaba Beach mid-morning to a big community welcome.

The annual Island Charity Swim is an 11km open ocean swim and each year approximately 100 participants complete the course over several hours from Mudjimba beach, around Old Woman Island, and back to shore at Mooloolaba beach.

To date the event has raised almost a million dollars for funding equipment and student programs and the 2011 event is expected to be another record year for participants. The fundraising goal for this year is $10,000 for special needs equipment for both schools.

Individuals and teams can take part and are invited to contact the volunteer committee now to register.
